Sometimes we eat more than our body wants because we do not taste our food. To increase your awareness, and intensify the taste of the food you are eating, slow down. Eat without distractions. Turn off the television. Eat in dim light. You may even want to close your eyes because when you are shutting out some of your other senses—in this case, sight—you will increase your sense of taste. Of course, you do not want to eat alone in the dark all the time, but certainly, such an experiment will help wake up your taste buds. You just might find the healthy food you claim tastes like cardboard is interesting or even delightful.
