When was the last time you did nothing? Is it even possible to do nothing at all? When we sit or lie down or just stand for a moment, we are not doing nothing. We are breathing, we are living, we are digesting, and we are looking. If our eyes are closed we are seeing what appears in the inside of our eyelids. We are thinking. How do we know you are thinking and not doing nothing? Most people have a hard time clearing their minds to meditate. If you think you are doing nothing, you are thinking, and that is something.
By being aware of your breath, your surroundings, your thoughts, your feelings, your body temperature, any sounds or odors, and anything you notice in your environment, you will realize that doing nothing is very difficult. So when someone asks you what you are doing, and your reply is “nothing,” think again.
